About Custodia Sepulchrum and Local Issues

I should first take a moment to explain seemingly morbid title of Custodia Sepulchrum: The caretaker of the tomb. The general theme of this blog is an exploration of the cemetery where is buried the dreams, aspirations, founding beliefs and achievements of a great nation, a great city and her people noting how these were murdered by degrees by the succubus of post-modernism. It mocks the shambling, degenerate zombies that masquerades as New York and America (as ruled by the managerial state) because humor is the most powerful weapon against these creatures. Just as these miscreants can't bear a light being shined on them and their deeds.

Although this blog sometimes deals with local issues and people, the reader, no matter where they hail from should read this. It covers methods and strategies used and a critique of their successes and/or failures. It should be noted that the posts made here at Custodia Sepulchrum dealing with local issues might be instructive as something similar might occur wherever the reader may be.

A little background:
To anyone outside the New York City area who assumes we are all ardent, dyed in the wool progressives, and deserve whatever dire fate we get, you're wrong.
We're in occupied territory and haven't got any choice in the matter.

Most, if not all of the white hipster losers and shrieking prog bugmen here come from the midwest or the south. And they along with third worlders who don't mind one party strong man governments and homeless people from around the country looking for some good freestuff are pouring in all the time. Furthermore, all these people vote for leftist Democrats (assuming the ballot boxes are not being stuffed) and the Republicans here are worse than useless. The dissidents, those of us left, are on our own and tend to keep a low profile. The mass of moderates and apathetics suffer from a form of battered wife syndrome, praising in public their social justice overlords to avoid another beating.
But maybe not all is lost as what was murdered does not stay buried as long as someone notices what is being done to us and remembers what was taken away and speaks out. At worst, there's nothing to lose by trying.

Further, many of the bureaucrats who make decisions and put policies into effect are not from the 5 boroughs.  They're what we here call "out of towners". They do not know anything about the neighborhoods, probably can't even find them on a map, or know the people who live in them much less care about us or how their schemes affect us. For example, most of us hate the bike lanes and don't want them but we have no say in the matter. This is occupied territory. The Party of the One True Political Religion known to mere mortals as the Democrat party of New York controls who runs, the Board of Elections, the judges, the works. We are a petri dish in the grand experiment of progressive liberalism, the place where managerial plots are hatched and tested before being deployed to the rest of the country.

And finally:
In understanding our failures, one might know what will not work, what to avoid like the plague and may find a better solution in the same or similar situation. We all learn from our mistakes but the best mistakes to learn from are the ones that others make. Hopefully, my neighbors will start to wake up and learn from our mistakes as well. One does what one can.

As always, to the reader from anywhere in the United States or in the world, the caretaker welcomes you.

The Ruling Class Political Theater of the High-Tech Witch Hunt.

On the U.S. House Judiciary Committee hearing on hate crimes and the rise of white nationalism, April 9, 2019.

If one were to look at the FBI statistics on hate crimes for specifically those crimes committed by white perpetrators, then by eyeballing the numbers from 2011 to 2017 (links included below), there does not seem to be any overall trend upward. It must be noted that it appears that white Hispanics are not listed as a separate column but are included in the "white" category and that falsely reported hate crimes are not removed so the numbers given are suspect. The falsely reported hate crime category is not even tracked by either the FBI or local police so any such numbers are anecdotal.
The Red Elephants has a video which explores this subject.

I suspect that the current witch hunt for "white nationalists" which is an ill-disguised euphemism for "white supremacists" or the ultimate evil force in the universe, "the nazis" is not personal for the old white leadership of the Democrat party. The ruling class is too socially and culturally isolated from the American white pleb masses that such people become mere abstractions to the beltway lords. This is simply another example of Democrats jumping out in front of the identity politics parade and attempting to lead it themselves to retain their control over the left. This way, people like Schumer, Pelosi, Shiff, Nadler et al, by railing against evil white people can appease and control the upstart people of color forces such as the insurgent Justice Democrats, by out flanking them on the left.

It cannot be overlooked that the managerial ruling class may simply be tired of operating behind their corporate sock puppets in suppressing opposition from the right or anyone who questions the ruling narrative. Although it would be wiser for them to do so, people in power still cannot help but wanting to display that power themselves and perhaps fear that their sock puppets, in doing the dirty work, may in some way be exercising power of their own. This would make the government managerial rulers feel threatened as power does not like to share. Power is not only the ability to force others to do whatever those in power want but power must be publicly demonstrated, exercised openly for all to see. The peasant subjects must not only know who specifically rules over them but must see the ruler openly wield power to show the peasantry that the ruling class' mastery is unchallengeable.

Also, the Z Man in this blog post make the case that these hearings stem from ruling class rage over middle America's opposition to their rule. This is most likely also be a significant factor as power not only does not like to share but demands absolute, unquestioning obedience and deeply resents not only opposition but even the mere questioning of its prerogatives.

For the political/bureaucratic caste, this may all be theater but for the rank and file leftist social justice warrior, for whom even the most trifling of disagreements with their cargo cult ideology merits a full-blown inquisition, this is serious business indeed. For in the clownworld of the SJW, racism and white nationalism are a sort of ghostly, demonic force that even if unseen or unfelt, still haunts the darkest corners of their minds. Even worse, this supernatural terror may at any time spring into the real world to cause their feelings to be hurt. For in the deranged minds of the SJWs, as their hurt feelings are tantamount to, if not worse than, physical violence or death, so the specter of white nationalism is a grave existential threat to their feelings that must be destroyed at once. By any means necessary be it lying, staging fake hate crimes or provocations. This diabolical force threatens not only leftist feelings but the canons of their religious cult that demand the devil must be fought to the death. And no devil, especially the racist white nationalist ghost devil can ever be dead enough.

That the ruling class and their media factotums are seriously overstating, if not outright lying about, the threat of radical white supremacists, makes no never mind to them. That it could easily turn into a witch hunt that will hurt innocent people is of no concern to them. For the Democrat lords who sat on the committee, the plebs are not really people, just abstractions that must be rigidly controlled not only for their own good but to maintain the rightful ruling continuum. Why should they care about any plebs who are used as symbols in their machinations and primarily exist only as stats?

For as far as our betters are concerned, abstractions and symbols aren't really alive, are they? And if they are truly alive, isn't the continuing power of the ruling class continuum more important than some proles they do not personally know? If violence does ensue, it will simply be another crisis the political/managerial class wouldn't let go to waste and use to their advantage. The managerial state will use this opportunity to take plenary power, of course, for our own good, as abstractions cannot think or make sensible decisions of their own. After all, the fault will lie not with the managers but with angry white proles who simply will not accept responsibility for historic racism or acknowledge that they are inherently and irredeemably racist and must be replaced by better people of color. The ruling managers are simply cleaning up the mess of historical and apocryphal racial violence created by all evil white people.

The tree of tyranny like the tree of freedom also needs to be sometimes watered with the blood of patriots or anyone else's blood for that matter.

However, there is a real danger here for the elderly, white ruling class aristocracy in trying to gin up hatred between the people of color and white middle Americans. At some point, the people of color forces will not want to be mere expendable shock troops or have the ceremonial position of chief peasants with extra rations and some extra privileges but will want to rule themselves. After all, haven't white liberals been telling them for generations now that their lack of success is the fault of racist white people holding them down? Is not a supernatural force called racism inherent to only white people the cause of all their problems, taking all their wealth when otherwise they would be rich and powerful? Is not equality of outcome as valid for equality with the ruling elite as it is with the white proles? As our ruling class has a tiger by the tail, it remains to be seen just how long they can hold on to it.

College Point, This is The Price of Questioning Your Betters

From QNS: College Point residents say contractors conduct illegal late-night work at shelter site.

So what did the residents of College Point expect for their hubris in opposing the homeless shelter decreed by their betters in city government? The local city gov squires will of course make their displeasure felt in some trivial way such as having the contractor make noise late at night to be a nuisance. Such is the spitefully picayune way of the narcissists of the local D-list ruling class. You know, the liberal progressive leftists you keep re-electing because you have a desperate need to prove what good little liberals you are and God forbid you're called a racist or mean-spirited.

Now I'm not writing this to gloat over your failures, laugh at your misfortunes or to jab you with "I told you so". No, I'm in the same boat as you and the city policies that negatively impact you unfortunately negatively impact me as well. This blog was set up as a tenth man, hail Mary pass attempt to knock some sense into your collective thick skulls. I do not like this and many other city policies foisted on us without our consent any more than anyone else does. I hate the fact that government is no longer responsive to its citizens as much as you do. But let's face the facts here, the tactics being employed and trying to work within a rigged system have failed. This post is a form of tough love.

Understand something here: Your betters have arranged us into groups of the angels they favor and the devils they despise. Even if you are on the angel's list, there is still a strict caste hierarchy. No matter how much of a good, loyal little Democrat you are, no matter how well you parrot the party line, you are way lower on the identity/victim totem pole than the homeless (who are also most useful) so what you want does not count for anything. Welcome to the managerial state 2.0 where you not only have no power but your vote is meaningless as well.

So what are you going to do about it?
More protests nobody pays any mind to. Whine some more to our electeds. Grumble about the situation in the comments section of local rant porn blogs. Put your trust in the local civics or self-appointed community leaders and pray they will do something. We've been doing these things all along so how's all that been working out for us?

And calling 311? Seriously? All anyone who calls 311 to complain about this achieves is to give their betters the dysfunctional pleasure of reveling in the complainant's salty tears. Moan and rattle your chains, peasants, but the beatings will continue until morale improves. No, wait, the beatings will continue until you submit without question or complaint.

If you refuse to change course and must continue on your old, failed track, then you deserve what you get so stop crying and just suck it up.

So what are you going to do about it? Here is a suggestion:
It's time to change our voting patterns and admit progressive liberalism is a complete and utter failure. It's time to begin supporting insurgent candidates from both parties who will break the back of the party machine and begin to dismantle the managerial and welfare state or at least cut it down to a smaller, more manageable size. Maybe we should drain the swamp.
And no socialists as they represent a completely failed, sad little religion.

The more the party bosses, their media lackeys and activist lickspittals hate these candidates, the better they are. Pay no attention to the juvenile name calling of racists or whatever. Even after getting insurgent candidates in, make sure they follow through on promises and vote them out if they don't. Keep electing new people until you get the ones who do the job and then do not re-elect them for more than two terms. Keep them moving. Easier said than done, I know, but there's no other way.

Understand that this will not change the current situation which is a lost cause. The suggestion outlined above will take a few election cycles until we start to see results so patience and dedication is most needed. It took a long time to get into the mess we're in and it'll take time to untangle it.

The Travesty of Hotel Queens

From: QNS - All the World's a Fare: NYC's largest and most diverse food festival comes to Queens

If I had a drinking game where I had to take a shot of whiskey every time I see the word "diversity" in any article written by some party-lining, liberal hack, or any other generic out-of-towner hipster, I'd have alcohol poisoning after the second paragraph. This article by Joe DiStefano didn't let me down.

Besides the usual out-of-towner squeeing like a giddy schoolgirl over the ethnic food and diversity which suburbanites love seeing in my hometown but never in theirs, Joe manages to eliminate our native identity while re-writing our history. First of all, "the world's borough"? Another word for the drinking game. We, those of us who were born here and even have generations of our ancestors buried here no longer have an identity of our own nor any claim on our home. We belong to the world now, occupied territory, whored out by our Manhattan-centric political establishment to anyone from the far flung reaches of the planet who wants to plant their own national flag in us. We don't even have our town names from which we identify ourselves anymore but we're just Queens.

Yes we belong to the world now as a series of unassimilated colonies waving their own national flags. For the white out-of-towners, it's like a third world theme park where they can come and gawk at the various exotic colonists. Ethnic cleansing of the local people and culture never sounded so cool and twee and the food? Oh, the food is just to die for! Fuck the people whose ancestors actually built the place and made it their home.

Then there is the World's Fair grounds. And no, Joe, the neither the Unisphere nor the 1964-1965 World's Fair, something we locals are proud of, was never about "diversity". You made that bit of nonsense up. Besides, the colonists neither know nor care about either the 1939-40 or 1964-65 Fairs. Read one of the plaques around the Unisphere sometimes if you're really interested in what it symbolizes.

Now there's the theme of the article itself: The World's Fare, an unoriginal title as this is what the food court in the Queens Center mall has been called since it opened in 1973, however I digress. What strikes me about this article is that if this is such a quintessential Queens event, why are there so few born and bred locals featured in it? Since looks like practically everybody is from somewhere else, how does this say anything about Queens other than muh diversity and muh ethnic food?

Overall, this is just more hyperventilated civic nationalist rubbish as detailed in previous posts here (specifically the last two paragraphs) and here.

Yes, welcome to Hotel Queens with guests from around the country and around the world having nothing more in common with each other than we are all staying in the same hotel. The guests are here for their own reasons, do not care about the concerns or problems of the other guests and generally treat the Hotel Queens and its employees, the native residents, with ill-disguised contempt.

Inhuman Scale

It must be remembered that power is not a means to an end, however noble those ends may sound, but that power is an end in and of itself. As government grows in size and scope of managerial power, it increasingly sees any power still in the hands of the citizenry as an intolerable rival and potential threat. Power is a jealous god after all. Private property is a realm over which the citizen has power and therefore it must be gradually taken away. After all, the individual citizen is viewed by the State as largely ignorant, woefully uninformed and utterly incapable of understanding the complex political and social issues of today and is therefore incompetent to make his own decisions. Eventually, the citizen must on no account have any power whatsoever even to associate or not with whomever he wishes or even to have his own thoughts or opinions. However great the imbalance of power between the State and the individual citizens, the apparatchiks can never rest easy until they have complete control over the citizenry. Even then, one has to wonder if the politicians' and bureaucrats' control would ever be enough for them.

This is one of the ways in which the State will move to gain greater control over their citizens.
That there is a push to move people into cities and to compact them into ever more densely populated neighborhoods comprised of massive blocks of glass and steel towers can not be denied. In the ostensible pursuit of "sustainability", the citizen will in time be denied permission to own his own land or automobile. Even energy will be grudgingly doled out by the managerial powers as another facet of life over which the custodial state will have uncontested control.

Hence the densely populated, gargantuan towers that the pleb masses will live in will ensure the citizen will walk to work or for any other errands and will be allotted only as much energy and resources as will barely sustain life. Or else some climatic apocalypse which not need be factual but morally true (in the opinion of our betters), will happen.

Such imagery as this was once considered a disturbingly dystopian nightmare as depicted in Fritz Lang's 1927 movie Metropolis, is now considered by the political and bureaucratic continuum (h/t Admiral Logic) and their rank and file social justice warrior lickspittals as a veritable paradise. At least a paradise for the ruling class and favored elite vassals.

It is in fact a form of neo-serfdom where the peasant will be forever tied to his land, his life fully regulated, eating and drinking only what the State approves, his speech monitored and corrected, and exist always under the watchful eyes of omnipresent cameras. It will be a mean, drab existence established for the amorphous and undefined excuses of the "greater good", "social justice" and "fairness".  Such will be the noble cause corruption used to justify tyranny- all for our own good, of course.

But there is another aspect of this proposed metropolis which is that in comparison to the megalithic towers and the mean, sterile existence of its denizens, the individual human being is reduced to an optical zero in comparison to the cyclopean scale of the buildings. The soul of the individual is not merely humbled against the vast scale of the numbingly bland or brutishly ugly architecture as a vulgar display of the power of the State, but the soul is utterly crushed beneath it.

If Orwell's novel 1984 and the film Metropolis had a love child, this would be it.

Murray N. Rothbard- 'The Progressive Era'

In looking for historical background and further research on the progressive era of the early 20th century, I've begun reading Murray N. Rothbard's book titled The Progressive Era and am currently about a third of the way through it. The reason I mention this is that Rothbard has already covered a hypothesis I proposed in an earlier post, The Great Robber Baron Swindle, in that the programs proposed by the progressives in the early 20th century were not to help the common man as advertised but the then growing statist ruling class. I further theorized that big businesses were at first opposed but later saw the obvious benefits government regulations in keeping out smaller competitors and became the willing champions of managerial state control over the business.

As previously noted, Rothbard did indeed confirm most of what I wrote that essentially yes, progressivism was a tool to advance greater levels of managerial state power but that first, Rothbard traces this back to the late 19th century and second, that big business recognized the advantages of statism for them and were in favor of it from the beginning.

I hadn't read Rothbard before and was unaware the he had explored this concept far earlier than I had and that was a bit disappointing as I never heard this hypothesis before and believed I may be plowing new ground here. Oh, well, it's true that there's nothing new under the sun and with so many more intelligent and better educated people out there doing research long before I was born, it's next to impossible to look at history from a new angle that nobody ever considered before. I should get out more could be a valid criticism but hey, there's so many books out there to read, one still has to find the relevant ones and only so much time to read them.

There again, finding some confirmation for my hypothesis, derived independently, does deserve a bit of credit but fear not, I won't overtax my arm in patting myself on the back.
